The Business
TOP-TOY was an international company that sold toys and other products for children.
Started in 1963 in Denmark and was privately owned until the end of 2015.
Retail
We served approximately 20 million customers in 2015 through our two retail chains, BR and TOYS"R"US.
For the TOYS"R"US chain, we had an exclusive license to operate in the Nordic region.
Wholesale and the Group
We were one of the largest toy distributors in Northern Europe.
In 2015 we sold approximately 45 million pieces of products to retail customers across our markets, generating approximately 3.5 billion DKK / 470 million EURO (ex. VAT) in total revenue for the Group.
The Stars
At TOP-TOY we employed 2,200 full time employees in 2015, across our stores, offices and warehouse in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Germany and Hong Kong.
The main Locations
Our main offices were located in Denmark (Tune & Vallensbæk) and Hong Kong (Wan Chai & Kowloon Bay), while we had satellite offices in Sweden (Malmö), Norway (Oslo), Finland (Helsinki) and Germany (Hamburg).
Not to mention the approx. 300 fully owned retail stores and 8 web-shops.
The end
On November 30, 2018, TOP-TOY A/S filed for reconstruction and on December 21, 2018, the restructuring plan for a new and healthy TOP-TOY was approved by the creditors and the Court.
However, the company was declared bankrupt based on a bankruptcy petition submitted by the board on December 28, 2018. The bankruptcy petition means that the management of TOP-TOY was taken over by a number of trustees appointed by the Court.
