Working in our BR stores

The employees who man our stores and provide our customers with on-site help and service play a key role at TOP-TOY.

When working in our stores, it is imperative that you know all there is to know about our products. You should be service-minded, creative and able to give our customers an experience they can’t get anywhere else. As part of a modern, international company, you’ll find that selling toys is great fun but, by no means, child’s play.

BR is TOP-TOY’s high street toy retailer with stores in prime locations, a strong brand with a recognisable mascot, well-established customer relationships and, not least, the loyalty programme Club BR. The BR mission is to be the authority on making children happy – and we have more than 50 years of experience in doing that. Our focus is to provide excellent and personal customer service, convenient shopping and and a targeted assortment of inspiring, quality products for young children. Working in our TOYS”R”US stores

TOYS”R”US is TOP-TOY’s chain of large stores, offering a broad assortment of entertaining toys and products at great prices, targeting children of all ages. Within TOYS”R”US, we focus on being the most entertaining destination for children and adults, offering customers fun experiences and events along with the largest assortment of children’s favourite brands, great prices and good bargains. TOP-TOY operates TOYS”R”US stores in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland.

A job at TOYS”R”US will give you the opportunity to work with creating entertaining shopping experiences in a large and dynamic toy store with many dedicated colleagues.

Working in our offices

The TOP-TOY offices are the engine room of our successful organisation, where you can take part in developing the company to ensure future growth. In order to deliver the results we aim for, we depend on dedicated and committed people with capabilities that cover a wide range of areas.

Our main offices are located in Vallensbæk, just outside Copenhagen, Denmark and in Hong Kong. The offices employ around 200 and 100 people, respectively. At both locations, we have administration units working with, for example, retail, sales, procurement, marketing, graphic design and merchandising. In addition to our primary areas, we have a number of support units such as IT, finance, communications and HR. At our satellite offices in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Germany, our employees mainly work with HR or salaries.

Working in our warehouse

Our business wouldn’t be a business for long without all our warehouse employees. Getting our products to all of our stores is a gigantic logistic jigsaw puzzle that requires overview and muscles.

DEVELOPMENT AND OPPORTUNITIES

For employees in our stores, relevant training opportunities include our Store Manager School and Academy of Retail. In our offices, the available training possibilities are a combination of your wishes and assessed training needs related to your specific position.

Store manager school

Store managers who have not yet had sufficient theoretical education as well as trainee store managers participate in a six-month course in theoretical and practical leadership at our Store Manager School.  TOP-TOY staff conduct the training in cooperation with external consultants.

Over the six months, the course participants meet for three times each time for a week of intensive schooling with lectures, group work and role play. A final exam comprises a mix of written assignments and practical role-play, reflecting likely scenarios in a store manager’s daily work. Prior to Store Manager School, trainees attend our Prep School, which consists of seven modules.

Academy of Retail

Several of our talented and energetic store managers and sales managers have taken an Academy Profession (AP) Degree in Business from the Academy of Retail in Denmark. The degree programme takes three years and revolves around areas such as personal leadership in retail, human resources, concept management in an international perspective, and optimising store and chain performance.

We take recruiting seriously and regard every application process as unique. We cannot give you an exact date for when we will contact you, but you will always receive information once we have filled the vacant position. If you are invited to an interview, our HR department will inform you about the next steps in the process.

Creating good jobs
We want to create good jobs that attract and retain qualified employees. To achieve this, we invest in maintaining and developing our employees’ qualifications and work continuously to improve our training of store and office employees. During 2016, 72 store managers or trainee store managers attended our store manager school.

We have a strong health and safety organisation in our stores, warehouses and offices. We encourage employees to be prompt and proactive in reporting workplace hazards and accidents and raising concerns about the workplace that can impact physical or psychological safety.

Diversity
We believe that our future competitiveness depends on our ability to attract and retain an engaged and competent workforce, recognising the benefits of diversity in respect of gender, culture and experience. Our aim is to continue progressing towards our long-term commitment of hiring and promoting women. Diversity is therefore a focus area in our recruitment to managerial positions. Part of the brief given to internal hiring managers and external recruitment agencies is that they should ensure a representative candidate list also in relation to gender, although qualifications remain the most important criteria for recruitment.
